Futures a little mixed this morning.  They were up earlier and have come back down with the jobless claims number that came out this morning.  We’ll probably see some indecision in the markets this morning, meaning it might be decent for some scalping early.  We’re leaning to the buy side today but keeping fairly tight stops in place.

What we’re watching:

The financials are still on the radar to see how they’ll react with a new bill trying to be voted on to try to slow down the mortgage crisis.  So we’ll be watching the indexes and also financials.  Remember if the markets do start to slide look to the ultrashorts to catch some of the market downside.  Trade Smart!

“We are not quitters”

Posted by Trader1 On February - 25 - 20093 COMMENTS

That’s what the President said last night.  I’ll give him that it’s a good thing to stay persistent, but whew I’m not exactly sure what he was saying we’re quitting on.  If there’s no real relief and they just keep feeding the corporations that has put the economy in this mess even if we don’t quit, it might not make things any better.  I don’t want to sound pessimistic about things, just want to see what is really going to be done.

Futures lower this morning on well, not good news.  This is like an old broken record.  Hopefully you were able to catch some of yesterday’s rally.  That’s one of the things about trading, is you have to try to stay consistent.  Days you take losses are tough but if you stay consistent and your setups and methods work, over the time frame you trade you should still be able to stay ahead.  We’ve been watching FSLR for several days and this morning is a good reminder of the risk you take with overnight positions.  We try not to hold much of anything overnight and this is a good example why it’s risky.  FSLR closed at 137.68 yesterday and here in premarket it’s trading at about 114.  This one has a lot more potential to slide even more.  Under the 117 level is a good short setup.  The risk to reward is actually pretty good with a target of about 104 if you look to swing it.  After big gaps like this it reduces a litle of the overnight risk.

What we’re watching:

Indexes of course, after the rally yesterday and now what seems to be negativity setting in again we’ll have to see how the markets as a whole react.  We’re also watching the financials as the big banks are going through the stress test.  Names like GS with it’s value still being fairly high is one to watch.  Hopefully you caught some of the big run yesterday as we said that 81.50-82 range was key.  Bounced right off that and boy did it rally.  I wasn’t expecting that kind of move but take what you can.  We’re gonna keep an eye on FSLR too, not sure if it’ll make the big breakdown move today but it sure looks like it might eventually.

Hottie Of The Week – Kristin Kreuk

Posted by admin On February - 24 - 20093 COMMENTS

Date of Birth 30 December 1982, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Born and raised in Vancouver B.C., Kristin never thought she’d be going big time. She acted in several school plays but mostly focused on her schoolwork. Fate came calling her senior year of high school when the casting director of a new TV series, “Edgemont” (2000), sent a fax to her school. They wanted an exotic looking girl to play the part of Laurel. It was her first professional audition and she landed the part. Since then, she continues to star in the Canadian series while filming “Smallville” (2001). Lucky for her, both shows are filmed in Vancouver! In 2002, she became the newest spokesperson for Neutrogena and started an advertising campaign with them.

“Stress Test” not just needed for the banks

Posted by Trader1 On February - 24 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Futures up this morning after yesterday’s monster slide down.  All the charts that look at yesterday’s market look like a big playground slide.  I hope we don’t see more of that take place.  The banks are going to go under a “stress test” to see where they stand.  After yesterday I’m sure the banks aren’t the only ones going under stress tests.  With the economy facing unprecidented times and an uncertain future, it’s a good gut check time to see where you’re putting your dependence and trust these days.  Even the most conservative investor is seeing the crunch as what used to be the safety net of investing(the banks) are caving and are undergoing restructure.  I’ve been reminded to think of where my faith is in these times.  Might be a good time to check that over for yourself.

What we’re watching today:

The indexes, GS and other financials, ONXX also seems a little interesting this morning.  On GS the 81.50-82 range will be a big level so trade it accordingly.  Trade smart today!

“The Dark Knight” has become the fourth film to take in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office.

Warner Bros. made the announcement Friday afternoon, saying that the combined domestic and international gross had totaled $1,001,082,160 to date — about $533 million domestically and $567 million overseas.

“Knight” had been about $4 million short of the 10-figure mark when Warner Bros. re-released it into Imax screens on Jan. 23, the day after its eight Oscar nominations were announced. Grosses from Ecuador also helped nudge the Batpic over the mark, a spokeswoman said.

Only “Titanic,” with $1.8 billion, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” have topped the billion-dollar worldwide mark previously.

“Knight” also is the second-highest domestic grosser of all time, trailing only “Titanic.”

Warner also noted that it’s the largest 2-D digitally re-mastered Imax release in the domestic market with $49.6 million and worldwide with $64.9 million.

Jessica Alba, for all of 2008

Alba started off the year with a bomb, Good Luck Chuck, then went on to star in even more craptastic films such as The Love Guru and The Eye. After putting the vote to our readers, Alba ran away with this award, leaving all other competitors in the dust. Congrats Jessica!

Futures way down this morning.  World markets also down.  We usually like to play the bounce on gap downs like this, but we’re a little leary of the upside potential today.  Maybe we should stick with our normal train of thought.  It’s options expiration so anything can happen.  We’re watching the indexes and ETFs today.  Get to it! Trade Smart!

Oil inventory data today

Posted by Trader1 On February - 19 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Futures slightly higher this morning.  Oil is also starting to make a little bit of a move.  Alot will depend on what the data comes out at today.  So oil/gas related stocks are what we’re watching today.  Names like USO, XOM, BP, RIG and to stretch it a little even xle.  XLE is more of an energy play but the 2 usually run hand in hand.  We’re getting prepped so TRADE SMART!

Futures up this morning but just a tad.  We’ll probably see a little selling early but could see another little pop.  Yesterday on the indexes it did what we thought.  Sold, bounced then sold back.  On some talk of housing rescue we could see lenders, banks/finanicals move today.  Nasdaq seems to be moving alittle to the upside this morning as well.

What we’re watching:

Indexes for sure, but individually we’re watching GS, JPM, AAPL, RIMM and AMZN

On GS, if it breaks above the 88.70’s area it could see decent upside action.  A decent entry could also be above 86 if you want to get in early but a stop just under 86 to keep it fairly tight.  Below 85 and we could see it contiuing down to the 82’s.  Just stick to your setups and game plan!

Trade Smart! and remember especially in this environment, A gain is a gain!
